THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTACT STEAM AND NOW STEAM WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MY EMAIL. i AM SO CLOSE TO BEING LOCKED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT WHICH I HAVE SPENT OVER 1000$ ON. GOOD JOB STEAM, IF YOU CAN GET THE MONEY, YOU WILL TAKE IT. GREEDY FU%%ERS.. This game is terrible.. This is a DOSBox-Port of the original game, but for some reason it is missing the digitized speech, the second map (Germany) and the one that is included (England and Wales) doesn't even detect when you have conquered every territory and therefore won the game. I know it's obvious when you have won, but at least a message like "Congratulations, you are now the king of England of Wales" or something would've been nice. The missing map is a real issue, though. I own the original game on CD and LITERALLY HALF OF THE GAME IS MISSING.. PC Gamer US presented Lords of the Realm with its 1994 "Best Historical Simulation"! This is a simulation of England/Wales without king, so all the different nobles are trying their best to grab the island for their own.Well there wasn’t really that many western turn-based strategy game back than but I certain enjoyed it many years ago. Even when I am short of funds to buy games for Christmas 2017 I picked the complete collection of lords of the realm after having It on Wishlist for about half a year. After 5 failed attempt I found I still got it by completing this on highest difficulty once again. The famous “One More Turn” syndrome still push me to play this all the way to 4 o’clock in the morning on working day.The game it still was running very smoothly for me and after the first half an hour you start to get use to the old low-resolution graphics. The music is ever continuous and lacking variety, but you cannot ask too much for a game from 24 years ago. The gameplay itself lacking many of the new mechanics like troop experience points but the smart economic/happiness/health system are very interesting to toy with. You just about have to move those sliders for every county every turn until you take over enough lands and get too lazy to pass it to a steward. As a very old game it doesn't have trading card and achivements. Dosbox also doesn't support steam overlay's screenshoot feature. New young player beware as this game do not have a tutorial so if you are playing it for the first time make sure you at least reading the “readme.txt” guide that’s located in the game folder. I must confess even as a return player I wasn’t very confident that I remember how exactly to do this game right, so I had to go on YouTube to watch waytofail’s playthrough of this game. Thanks bro for all the tips and reminder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md9B0f-8FgE 8/10 and this is what is what I give for this game now. Back in 1994 it may be the best but now it’s aged quite a bit yet it’s still enjoyable and recommend for all strategy game fan to try out. It's dirt cheap for a great classic!. BUY IT! For less than $1 on the current sale you have a charming, deep and incredibly addicteve game. Feel your self taken back to the golden age of PC games, let the midi loops sweet over you as you play just one more turn. The interface is a bit of a bear, but its gets the job done.10/10 Would allocate peasant labor again.. PC Gamer US presented Lords of the Realm with its 1994 "Best Historical Simulation"! This game is a throwback to an older era. Seriously, it uses DOS. While it is an RTS with turn-based movement, it... is tricky for the modern sensibility. Now, the backstory of the game does make a few changes to history. In 1268, the English king was Henry III, but he was... having issues with the barons of the realm. In fact, the year prior had seen the end of the Second Barons' War. So unrest does bubble beneath the surface. Frankly, his staying on the throne was more due to the efforts of his son than his own prowess. Now, the throne DOES end up empty for over a year in 1272-1274... but this was due to his son taking his time returning from Crusade. And I do believe there were still some rebellious forces when he returned (not least in Wales). But considering said new king was Edward I Longshanks... the rebels were doomed. You might remember Edward I as being the English king in Braveheart. He was a military genius and brooked no disrespect (but gave a lot out, starting with the naming of his heir as "Prince of Wales").Okay, that aside, you do play in a time when a baron could conceivably take the throne, and maybe hold it. The gameplay is a bit confusing for me, as I am... unsure how to raise armies, fight, or... not have a peasants' revolt come out of nowhere...Still, for those used to this, or nostalgic for this game, it is a worthy acquisition.. -Quick Review-Lords of the Realm is a strategy game developed by Impressions Games and released in 1994.Normally I have more to say in the quick review section, but ultimate that's all there is to say about the game, the game is older, it's a classic and fond memory to some, I my perspective comes from someone who played Lords of the Realm 2 and only recently had the opportunity to play Lords 1 and 3. Read on for a more analytical review.-Detailed breakdown review-Story: You there! Squire! What year is it? "The Year is 1268, sir!" Blimey, 1268. I dare say we've missed 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, Sherman. "Whatever will we do Mr. Peabody? The WABAC machine never fails, you say it all the time in your narrations!"*Atratzu shakes himself* Excuse me, I've been watching too many 1959 Rocky and Bullwinkle show cartoons.Lords of the Realm takes place in 1268, the king has died, and now everyone is scrambling to get their buttox into the English royal throne. It's pretty much the same setting as Lords of the Realm 2.It seems hardly fair to contrast Lords of the Realm to Lords of the Realm 2, because it's simply not in chronological order. But alas, I will have many comparisons between the two games. In my reviews defense, Lords of the Realm 2 is known much better then it's predecessor, so it will have value, but I still must confess and apologize for the comparison, I feel guilty making it. (But if it helps you decide for or against a purchase, it's worth it.)http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662121997Gameplay: I would break the Gameplay down into two modes: Economic, and Armies. The Economic aspect of the game comes down to food gathering/maintaining/growing, population increase, wealth from taxes, balancing happiness, resource/field rotation control, resource gathering and weapon production.Armies can be summed up into "Medieval: Total War" styled control. It's the type of control where you select a whole group of units, rather then individual commands to each unit. (Is there a name for that genre of combat? If so please let me know!) at the whole combat section is fought in Real Time Strategy style.http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662128552The similarities between Lords of the Realm, and Lords of the Realm 2 is striking, I was actually able to figure out how to play, based on my experience from Lords of the Realm 2 alone. Now a word of warning, Lords of the Realm is one of those 1990's games which expect you to read the game manual that was packaged along with the game, so you know what all the buttons do. (It's crazy how tool tips make a HUGE difference in strategy games.)A large potion of the game is spent trying to strengthen your counties, whereupon you raise an army, and then "conquer thy neighbors". While playing Lords of the Realm I kept finding myself shouting "What!? I can do this here? Why didn't they keep that in the game for Lords of the Realm 2!?!"My personal favorite feature is "Castle Customization". It blew, my, mind. Really some of these older games from the 1990's have more customization features then new releases. True, to a greater or lessor extent it's colorful wrapping paper, but I love customizing my stuff! If You've played Lords of the Realm 2 with advanced Farming on, that's pretty much regular farming in Lords of the Realm. Thankfully the crops are rotated for you, but you still need to remember not to over farm your lards, or else your crops won't be as successful.Additional note worthy elements I noticed while I played: Difficulty settings when you start the game. Naturally my first play through I set the game to "please don't beat me up too bad". General lower graphical quality from Lords of the Realm 2 (which is expected, I'm not knocking the game for it. It looks great for a 1994 game).Achievements: There aren't any Steam Achievements for Lords of the Realm. (Are there any for older retro games? none of the 1990 x-com games had steam achievements. It feels like someone just throws games at the steam wall. These games deserve more love then that; thank god there are dedicated communities for them. *gets off soapbox*)http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662126375Price: Lords of the Realm is priced at $1.99. Atratzu's response to price: Yep. You could probably pick up pennies on the street and be able to purchase this game. And you'll spend more then a few hours learning and refining the strategies in the game. Let alone playing through the whole campaign could take many many more hours. Conclusion: My review could swing either way, I could recommend Lords of the Realm, because it's a solid game, it works, I played it, I love playing older games on my laptop which runs on potatoes. (So it's nice to have options to play games on my other devices. In the end, this game will only appeal to certain types of people. Chances are if you're looking at it, you're either looking at what came before Lords of the Realm 2, or you originally played this game a long time ago and seeing if some punk is butchering it in the review section.I suggest this game to anyone who enjoys Strategy games, and doesn't mind playing older games with older graphics. As always, thanks for reading my review, and stay tuned for my review for Lords of the Realm 3!Here's the URL to see my review for Lords of the Realm 2Here's the URL to see my review for Lords of the Realm 3 - COMING SOON. I first played this game 20 years ago on the old Amga system It was Great then The transfer to pc and steam version has lost nothingThis was a Giant in its time its still Dam good nowIf you Like maps and amies you will like this. Yes its a bit dated and the graphics show that, but the gameplay and startagy are as good as ever.
